The Feminist Press presents Savage Coast, a previously unpublished novel by poet and radical political activist, Muriel Rukeyeser. With readings by the book's editor, Rowena Kennedy-Epstein, Eileen Myles, Lynne Tillman and Kathleen Pollit.

Muriel Rukeyeser was a poet, social activist, teacher, biographer, screenwriter, translator and an author of children's books. Before World War II, she worked for theaters and theater magazines; after the war, she read poetry and taught at Sarah Lawrence College. Sometime between 1930 and 1933, she co-founded with Elizabeth Bishop, Mary McCarthy, and Eleanor Clark a literary magazine, Student Review, to protest the policies of the Vassar Review. New York Times Book Review's Richard Eberhart has written that Rukeyser's poems are "primordial and torrential. They pour out excitements of a large emotional force, taking in a great deal of life and giving out profound realizations of the significance of being. . . . She belongs to the Whitman school of large confrontations and outpourings."
