David Carr and Stephen B. Shepard join Peter Beinart in this follow-up to the Graduate Center’s previous event “What is the Future of the Media?†(which featured Tina Brown, Andrew Sullivan, and Jeff Jarvis). David Carr writes the “Media Equation†column for the Monday Business section of the New York Times. For the past 25 years, Carr has written about media as it intersects with business, culture, and government. He began working at the Times in 2002, covering the magazine industry, and he is the author of the memoir The Night of the Gun. Stephen B. Shepard is the founding dean of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. From 1984 to 2005, he was editor-in-chief of BusinessWeek. Before that, he was senior editor for national affairs at Newsweek and editor of the Saturday Review. He is the author of the just-published book Deadlines and Disruption: My Turbulent Path from Print to Digital. Peter Beinart is a faculty member at CUNY’s Graduate Center and Graduate School of Journalism, a senior political writer for the Daily Beast, and author of, most recently, The Crisis of Zionism.
